Your domain can be shut down even if you comply with can-spam for a multitude of reasons.

Regarding your plugin, there are lots on the market doing something similar - it really needs to be ajax to have any level of adoption.

Andy

So it seems the email plugin is not can-spam compliant? The comment emailer should not be considered opted-in. After the comment, it would certainly be acceptable to receive a copy of the comment (good idea anyhow) and then an option for the comment emailer to opt-in. I should think it fairly simple to plug this in from any decent email system rather than expecting wordpress to sort it out as they don't consider that core.

Speaking of plug ins, I am currently experimenting with a survey plug in for blogs. The intent is to get feedback from those that prefer not to comment. As we know for every comment there are many more lurkers out there that may want to contribute but in a different way but without having to subscribe to anything or create an account like you do with say Tailrank.

The blogger then gets to have more comprehensive feedback view of posts and a better opportunity to engage directly with lurkers. It's still in experiment mode but you can see an example on http://www.narragansett.ie/blog
