Actually quite funny, I read somewhere that Susan also owns a 24 acre island somewhere in South America.

The laws actually aren't that bad, so long as there is universal compliance.

If marketers are having to include contact details and a declaration that an email is a marketing message, and probably have to also declare that they are an affiliate, then having to do it on the web page before clicking a link, or signing up seems almost logical.

Andy,

Are you sizing up an island somewhere in the Pacific to move to? :)

I think finding a good attorney that understands Internet and related issues is difficult to find no matter where you live.

I have a few UK based merchants I promote through CJ, although they are not from the "health market". I am wondering if this legislation would affect me if let say I promote 1&1 Internet Web Hosting to UK clients?

I definitely have to review every single campaign as far as UK is concerned.

Google obviously thinks that this will result in more unbiased, objective content on the web. But as my friend pointed out, this will remove the incentivised motive for producing content among affiliates. Big sites with money behind them like the BBC will consistently rank higher as a result.

Edit by Andy: I have left this comment here as an example of what is probably now illegal in the UK - the website that is linked to doesn't have any real contact details, and it is word-of-mouth marketing.
The comment didn't quite address what the post was about - the law is the law, nothing to do with Google

slam-man.com is the site that was linked to

I should also note that the comment was left using what certainly appears to be a fake email address "spamherepls at hotmail"
