Hi Andy,

Just wanted to thank you for your comments. I think I got a better idea of how MyBlogLog communities work. :)

Nice...I'm gonna look at knocking up a few buttons later.

Mybloglog 'joins' have dwindled as of late, so will be good to see if a suitably placed icon inflates the rate of sign up..

Or maybe I just need to do a few more, 'Hi I loved your community' type drive bys :D

There are a number of benefits I have identified

1. Visibility in various interface sections
2. Many people browse MyBlogLog rather than use Feed Readers

I take a very long-term outlook with MyBlogLog, that eventually it might form the backbone for a new kind of browsing experience, which might be an alternative to RSS readers.

I wrote a <a href="http://andybeard.eu/2007/02/mybloglog-wishlists-stop-thinking-small.html" rel="nofollow">MyBlogLog wishlist</a> which outlines my hopes for the future.

However I am not the only one thinking along these lines.

As an example Cord Silverstein made a similar post of his <a href="http://www.marketinghipster.com/2007/02/01/mybloglog-wish-list/" rel="nofollow">mybloglog wishlist</a>

You will notice that Scott Rafer in the comments to my wishlist mentioned an API, and my hope is that MyBlogLog will also have lots of enhanced functionality. I would loev to be able to browse a meme of the blogs I have joined in MyBlogLog, or of those who have joined my community.

You might extend that to one more generation and use the data in a search algorithm - currently there are 50-60,000 real blogs, effectively it is an ideal way to filter out the junk sites, affect relevance etc.

I would love to be able to have a latest posts from my readers widget for instance. I can do it partially with Technorati favorites.

Hi Andy,

Not sure if you've mentioned this earlier .. but are there any ostensible benefits for having more MyBlogLog users in one's community?

I'm not quite sure I understand why so many bloggers are pushing for more of their readers to join their communities.
