Bloggers Choice Awards – Blog Awards Go Social

Bloggers Choice AwardsWhat do you get when you combine some backend functionality similar to MyBlogLog and Blogcatalog with a Blogging Award?

The Bloggers Choice Awards

Here are some key points

  • Accountability – you can see the unique votes and who voted – they do ask for some personal details from the voters which I think is a good thing for that accountability. If they ever release the demographics it will be interesting
  • Real Time – you make a vote, you see it happen instantly
  • Multiple votes – you can vote for multiple blogs in the same category
  • Multiple votes – you can vote for the same blog in multiple categories
  • Professional Design – the website looks cool and is easy to navigate

A couple of negative things:-

The badges don’t link through by default to a particular blog – with so many blogs being nominated, it would be good to allow some level of direction (you can hack the code though)
I want the option to see more blogs on one page

Some fun or funny nominations I have seen so far:-

WordPress.com for Best Blogging Host – why funny? – Can you imagine Matt going to Postiecon to collect his prize?
Best Blogging Host really isn’t the same as best blogging software, and with the majority of the votes probably so far cast by posties, I can’t believe they are voting for a platform that doesn’t allow any monetization.

Eve is really doing well in the Best Business Blogs category – currently neck and neck with VC Dan with only 2 blogs ahead of them.

Best Corporate Blog – PayPerPost are currently knocking Google for 6 (a cricket expression for you Yanks) – yes they are the host, but have you actually read the PPP blog recently? They highlight their bloggers, they highlight their advertisers and really have their finger on the pulse of their business.

Best Geek Blog – Colleen is kicking the hell out of the A-listers and Jules isn’t far behind.

Apparently Paul (from BlogPaul) wants to be nominated for Best Daddie Blogger, but maybe best Animal Blogger would be more appropriate.

5XMom is currently knocking the stuffing out of Jason Calacanis

I have been nominated for 2 awards, Best Blog About Blogging and Best Marketing Blog, and I am actually doing fairly well in both so far.

Now for those that don’t like PayPerPost just ignore that for once, and go take a look. If you organise blog awards, this is the kind of platform that will be expected this year.

Remember you can vote for as many blogs as you like once you have registered.

Hopefully from Monday / Tuesday I will have a lot more time to go and vote for lots of my favorite readers.

I got nominated for 3 of these things, but I’m too lazy to hack the URL to each one. It’s not like I think I have a snowball’s chance in winning anything anyway. It’s the thought that counts.

It’s nice to see someone outside of the inner circle saying Payperpost has gotten something right. Mahalo for putting together an even-handed critique. The awards are open to all blogs, so your post is sure to bring some more great nominees. As a relative newcomer to blogging I’m flattered to have been nominated in the Blogitzer (best writing) category and feel like I’m in inspiring company. Not that I expect to win, but could you ask your readers to vote for me and abstain from nominating anyone else to my category, please? Mahalo!

WOW! I didn’t even know I was nominated for that. Thanks for the heads up. I’ve been watching my nomination in “Hottest Mommy Blogger” category. Heh!

Hmm .. I normally find that having to register for anything tends to put people off the voting process. Having said that, it’s one way to make the voting process more honest .. or at least harder for someone to create loads of accounts to vote for their own website … not that anyone would ever do that …

thanks andy! If I can ever get my logins to work there I will be voting for you as well, you are my favorite blog!! :-)

Eve if you put in the wrong details, it should offer to send your username and password by email, then you can use that and copy and paste.

Just tried voting for you Andy, but they seem to be down at the moment .. will probably try again tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I’ve not been nominated so Blogger’s Choice won’t be able to bait a link out of Dosh Dosh. :)

It’s depressing though, to be the only one left out lol

  1. [...] Andy Beard posted an in-depth article on the Blogger’s Choice Awards. I went over to the site to check it out and saw that Andy’s blog was in the lead for the Best Marketing Blog award. I am a huge fan of Andy Beard’s. I believe Andy offers some of the most interesting, well written and most relevant marketing information out on the web today. I also believe that Andy does not get the attention he rightfully deserves in the blogosphere. [...]
