I’ve Been Robbed!!!

That low down scoundrel Andy Beal, you know the one? Yeah the one who goes around confusing people with an almost identical name.

Well anyway I realised a few minutes ago that he had somehow got hold of one of my articles before it was published, and left me with only part of it.

This is all that is left

Techmeme Goes SEO

In the past I have mentioned that often on Techmeme somehow search marketing blogs that cover Google news extensively weren’t gaining a huge share of the limelight as the “lead” for stories, even if they were first to break the news.

Recently I have noticed a lot more stories making it into a lead position. Here is just an example for today.

Typepad AntiSpam

I have switched Spam Karma off… temporarily, to test Typepad’s new Antispam plugin

As is well known I am not a huge fan of collective intelligence as the sole arbiter of whether a comment is “spam or ham”, and long term I am most likely to switch back to Spam Karma, possibly using Typepad Antispam as an additional filter.

I am also going to grab the code from Igor so I can test Typepad Antispam in conjunction with his Project Honeypot though I think that too is best served as a Spam Karma filter/plugin with probably a high threshold.

Typepad Antispam was quite easy to set up

Search Engine Reputation Management (SERM) Market Size?

Andy Beal has taken a stab at estimating the market size for online reputation management.

As a niche marketer, considering the niche for promotion of various products, I thought I would take a closer look.

Hated Or Loved? Get Front Paged After Being Buried

Sadly this isn't possible on Digg, though it would be interesting if they provided a page with the most buried or hated stories. After all, just because you don't like a story doesn't mean it is spam, but it is still news.

Jack Spirko has knocked together an interesting site where your story can appear on the front page because it is "hated" and I feel the idea is worthy of a mention.

You can see that currently the hated stories seem to only appear in the sidebar – I would love them to be integrated with the main results by default

You Can’t Charge For Twitter Popularity

There are a number of fundamental flaws in many of the "calculations" being floated as a business model for Twitter.

I am just going to revert to bullets to make this easier to digest.

  • Slapping a charge on your biggest fans is financial suicide – if someone has been evangelising your product for 2 years, and using their influence to build your business, it would be extremely foolish to damage that relationship.
  • Om Malik is touting bandwidth costs possibly up to 30GB from Robert Scoble – hosting companies… even free blog hosts such as Wordpress.com give that kind of bandwidth away these

How To Find FriendFeed Rooms With Google

I noticed within the new Problogger room on FriendFeed, Darren mentioned the following:-

“feel free to invite others to this room – as long as they are bloggers and/or are interested in the ProBlogger type topic I’m happy for anyone and everyone to join. I’ve invited all my contacts on FF. Pity there’s no list of public groups for people to join.”

Whilst there isn’t a public list, in many ways Google with a site search query these days provides a very real alternative.

Exclusive: Share A Post Beta – Blog Post Syndication

Share A Post - Content SyndicationI was honestly wondering when someone would come up with a service like Share-A-Post, because it is one of those “no brainer” ideas that I have thought of doing, but never got around to.

When to a huge amount of disbelief I blocked some of my high ranking paid reviews with robots.txt, and hinted that syndication would be a perfect loophole in Google’s penalties, no one fully understood what I meant – many SEO experts thought I was bonkers.

This is what I meant – widespread syndication with editorial control

Google Double or Indented Listings

Whilst I gain tons of Google indented listings for money terms, and I can achieve them quite often in minutes, rather than days, they are almost always achieved using a few simple steps.

  • Get one page indexed and ranking
  • Write a second post linking to the first (which will also then trackback to the second page)
  • Use the same primary keyword in both posts

The second method I use, for topics that get frequent mentions, are tags.

  • My post with the highest number of links on a topic will most likely rank well
  • My tag page which leads to further posts on the topic will form the secondary listing

Affiliate Evolution With Ustream

A number of internet marketers are now using Ustream extensively for training.

  • Ed Dale with the 30 Day Challenge
  • Sherman Hu with his WordPress Huddles
  • Michael Cheney frequently holds free training sessions combined with special offers (I sat through 2 hours of one the other night)
  • I know that crazy guy Jason Moffat is now into Ustream big-time

Another guy who has always been extremely forward thinking with video for affiliate marketing is Russell Brunson. He must have spent a fortune creating his “Zoobie” internet marketing videos. I am not sure whether it was a big success, but I am sure he learned a lot from the experience.
