Article Marketing Anchor Text

This will probably become the topic of considerable debate and is just an initial incursion to test the validity of article marketing in various forms.

Some claims have been made by someone in a prominent position as an “influencer” that article marketing is pointless, and more specifically that Google doesn’t count links from article directories.
The claim was made without reference to test results of any kind, and whilst I know hundreds of people who primarily use article marketing for thier SEO campaigns to great success, I believe this is something that needs to be proven, even with a non-scientific test.
I realise there are other concerns, in fact I have covered them at least in part in the article I have written for syndication.

The test will be for an exact phrase match search for a specific phrase related to this document, but which doesn’t currently exist. That again is a “loaded” statement.

I will be including links to various places where my article is posted, directly from this page, and the links from the articles will point to this page, thus they will be reciprocal links for at least some of the articles syndicated.

Eventually I will also do a test with no reciprocity, but this time around I want at least some of the articles to be indexed quickly and this domain happens to have a little juice to potentially throw around.

I should point out that a search for the article title (after it has passed through moderation and cleared) is not an accurate indication of comparitive domain authority – there are a lot of other determining factors such as category and tag selection, internal linking sturctures, which article appears first, which are promoted extensively, how popular my profile is on the site due to past activity etc.

Anchor Text & Juice Passed In 4hrs

Google Juice and anchor text passed within about 4 hrs

I wasn’t spamming a refresh button to get exact timing as I had far too many other things to do and didn’t expect a result for a few days. It used to be a case that it would take 7 days for anchor text to be evaluated and show affect a result in the search results.

I covered a whole load of reasons why this might not be looked on as a conclusive test within the articles, but a couple of additional aspects I didn’t cover.

  • There is no proof of longevity – the links need to “stick”, and the current reciprocation might eventually cause problems.
  • As the search term & anchor text was unique to the internet, there is no indication of how powerful the link is.

Some of the ways to get an article to stick include linking to it, making it popular on the site so it is included more within internal linking etc (so don’t forget to visit and read the articles I posted)

I deliberately didn’t include all the shortcomings of this test on this page so you have to at least read the article on one of the listed sites
