Hated Or Loved? Get Front Paged After Being Buried

Sadly this isn't possible on Digg, though it would be interesting if they provided a page with the most buried or hated stories. After all, just because you don't like a story doesn't mean it is spam, but it is still news.

Jack Spirko has knocked together an interesting site where your story can appear on the front page because it is "hated" and I feel the idea is worthy of a mention.

You can see that currently the hated stories seem to only appear in the sidebar - I would love them to be integrated with the main results by default

Dear Digg – Please Ban My Site

Dear Digg

I have built up my blog to quite a large readership by writing in depth thoughtful articles.

To be honest, I am writing this not for the traffic I haven't received, but because the stories I write about often need a different perspective, or the companies I write about are newsworthy.

Maybe my site for some reason is on autobury, though I have no idea why that might be the case. Whilst my site does cover marketing and SEO related content sometimes, I wouldn't dream of encouraging that content to be submitted to Digg in any way.

However when I write about

SEO Linking Gotchas Even The Pros Make

I am going to attempt to debunk almost every Wordpress SEO "Expert" article ever written, and in some respects this article even debunks some of the things I have written in the past.

This article does not reference Google Toolbar PageRank in any way

First of all you are going to need to do a little homework.

Eric Enge interview with Matt Cutts

The Eric Enge interview with Matt Cutts was truly exceptional and revealed a number of gotchas that for some reason continue to be circulated.

Key takeaways

Matt Cutts: … Now, robots.txt says you are not allowed to crawl a page, and Google

29% Of Technorati Top 100 Never On Digg Home Page

I heard about this story from Glen yesterday about his extensive research into the correlation between the Technorati 100 and Digg home page stories. I am sure a blog og people have actually read the story by now because Darren linked through and Jordan remixed the statistics a little. What struck me the most was that 29% 8 Blogs in the Technorati Top 100 are none English, and some of those as you would expect make up the largest percentage of blog that haven't made the front page, but there are still 17% English blog that haven't made it. I would love to know which blogs have never made a front page that are in that Top100, as they deserve some Diggs. Secondly of course it does need to be mentioned that there are 10s

Jason Calacanis Mahalo Diggbait – Lies Or Credit?

Just one month ago Jason Calacanis invited me and a few bloggers he has crossed swords with in the past onto his Calacanis podcast. During that podcast I highlighted what I believe was one of the fundamental flaws with Mahalo’s long-term success, and Jason very politely rejected my advice.

AOL News: Digg Censoring News About AOL?

The revamp of AOL News today is quite significant, and Reuters being first to break the news is a trusted source of information.

I thought it was strange that the story hadn’t been submitted to Digg, because it was already appearing on Megite.

Choosing The Right Social Bookmarking Sites

Providing social bookmarking buttons can be a service to your visitors, and help highlight your best content on various social networks and news services, but you must think carefully about which ones you include, and where.

Truemors – More Successful Than Most People Realise

Everyone is slagging off Guy Kawasaki for his Truemors site (again). I think most of them need to have their head examined because the site is already a raging success and the venture is already profitable, though most of them are Tech bloggers and not SEOs or Niche Marketers.

StumbleUpon Quintuplet From The King Of Blogging Gobshites

Yes that title makes total sense, but you will have to keep reading to find out exactly why.

Stumble Popup

How often do you read a great blog post and forget to share it with your friends? The Stumbleupon toolbar is often a long mouse move away, and most people don’t use shortcuts when browsing, because they can’t remember them, or because of conflicts between different toolbars and other applications that are running on a system by default.

Destroy Your Blog Rankings Linking To Digg or Technorati?

How many blogs link to Technorati on every post they publish? Many blogs also use followable links to social bookmarking sites such as Delicious, and social news sites such as Digg on every single page of their site? Google in their recently disclosed patent are saying that it could be a negative indication of quality.

New Digg Buttons With Wordpress (that don’t work?)

Digg has introduced some new buttons and here is how to use them with Wordpress.

It’s smart enough to detect whether your link is a Digg permalink or a URL and whether or not the content exists on Digg already. If it exists, you’ll get the familiar yellow Digg box with a real-time Digg count to suggest visitors Digg your story. If the story doesn’t exist yet on Digg, the first person to click on the Digg It link will be walked through the submission process.

Headline Split Testing Social News With The Same Article For Massive Traffic

John Wesley over at Pick the Brain really is “getting smarter every day”.

He had a great article, he submitted it himself, and it flopped on Digg.

Doesn’t that happen to us all? Multiple Times?

Podcast with Irish Attitude

If you are someone who likes to listen to podcasts on blogging and tech issues, you might like to give Paul’s new podcast a try.

It is “down to earth” rather than full of hype (as you would expect from an Irishman), and my first impressions of it are very good (and that is not because I got a mention in the first episode).

How to Destroy Your Company Reputation | Deep Linking Tax

MyBlogLog Acquisition Coverage

It is interesting looking at the acquisition coverage for MyBlogLog.

First of all Techmeme gets it partially right, that one of the original sources for the sale was Forbes.

If you expand all the related coverage, it is a shame the announcement on the MyBlogLog Blog doesn’t seem to have been cited anywhere near as many times.

  • RAP Bank

I have just signed up for RAP Bank myself - call this a mini-review.
It seems to be one of the smartest ideas for a long time as a great way to consolidate 100s of affiliate programs under a single entity for promotion.

It is also one of the best implementations of WordPress I have ever seen.
It is not without its bugs, as this is effectively pre-launch. For example I just found a bug in the keyword based search RSS feeds (yes RSS feeds for any term will be hot), but it looks like they might be onto a winner.
Check it out - signup for the basic service is free.

    >Affiliate Program

P.S. It is not immediately obvious who is running the site, but looking at my Paypal receipt (yes I signed up for Vendor Plus) I believe the site is run by Bill Ortell From Rap-Extras.com who is RAP certified and does the membership add-on that is highly popular.
