Fairly Useless Feedburner Google Analytics Update

Feedburner apparently has integrated analytics with Google Analytics... woopie dooI suppose it makes things simpler for people who weren't already doing something similar for feeds, and at least they are segregating clicks between email and RSS, something their competitors for RSS > Email such as Aweber, Feedburner, Mailchimp etc have been able to do for a long time.

Feedburner Feedsmith WP2.8.4 & Caching

Just a quick note for anyone who has been missing updates for the last couple of weeks.I am not sure exactly what changed within WordPress 2.8.4 to cause this but for a large segment of my readers there might not have been any visible updates on RSS feeds since around 6th September.

Google Screws Up My WordPress Ping List

This post is likely to cause a little controversy, but it is my honest opinion that bloggers have been led astray for long enough regarding how many services you really should send a ping notification to.My AdviceIgnore all the other ping lists published - they are frequently irrelevant and could potentially highlight you as a spammer.

Feedburner Adds Friendfeed – Subscriber Data For Socialstreaming and Lifestreaming

Chris Cree spotted today that Friendfeed subscribers are now counted towards Feedburner stats.Friendfeed Now Counted In FeedburnerIt can make quite a striking difference with Feedburner if you have a few followers there.feedburner-friendfeedBut even this doesn't really account for the shifting sands in online attention. The latter half of this post was originally published Mar 21, 2008 @ 20:38Since then Twitter has for many people emerged as the primary way they read RSS feeds, combined with various forms of lifestreaming. The first time I see tweets and blog posts often is also on services such as Blogcatalog's dashboard or even Mybloglog (though that can sometimes lag a little on updates these days)

Current Calculation Problems

  • Blogcatalog & Mybloglog numbers are just as relevant as Friendfeed
  • Twitter numbers are probably more relevant than any Lifestreaming service
  • Facebook subscribers are still not counted
  • Aweber & Feedblitz, along with Feedburners own RSS to Email service are included, but they are the only ones I know about. Where is the Getresponse support Simon? Infusionsoft should really offer something as well, though they don't offer RSS to email - I am not sure about Mailchimp
The onus really is on the developers of these other platforms to report numbers to Feedburner, but I have no idea how that can be managed with Facebook and Twitter.

Bidvertiser Feed Advertising For Wordpress & Blogger

It looks like Bidvertiser have worked fast to address the problems many bloggers noted about their new feed advertising solution a short while ago and have come up with a way so that you can now use Bidvertiser using your existing feeds, and still use Feedburner as before, so that it doesn't affect your stats, and most importantly your feed readers.

From the Bidvertiser Blog

To address this, we have now launched 3 unique solutions:

1. WordPress Plugin to allow you to seamlessly embed the BidVertiser Ads in your feeds. You can download the plugin from your publisher account.

2. Solution for FeedBurner

Aweber RSS To Email Scheduling And Feed Counts

I have been quite vocal in my encouraging Aweber to add some more control to the way they handle RSS to Email, and I am glad to say they have now added some very flexible date and time based controls.

This means that they totally blow Feedburner Email subscription away as far as features are concerned.

Apart from one important aspect.

The Secret Statistics In Split RSS Feeds – Google Reader

Google Reader now reports feed usage, and it is being suggested by a prominent Google engineer that you should look at aggregated numbers. Danny has gone into what many of the numbers mean, but he is missing out on some vital clues that are extremely revealing.

First up, for those counting stats such as Darren Rowse, Robert Scoble and Techcrunch here are my numbers.

Google Reader is currently showing 3 different feeds that are all providing the same content, which you might think would be better served as a single number as appears in Feedburner. Hopefully that will never

RSSBrief – PayPerPost To Directly Compete With Feedburner and Google Reader?

The guys from PayPerPost might cause a lot of controversy, but there is one thing that I doubt anyone could deny, even their most harsh critics… they are smart.

They bring out interesting, useful, sometimes controversial or disruptive products, but they are certainly market leaders not the following pack.

In the case of RSSBrief, they are taking on an existing market, RSS Readers, and in many ways it seems they might also step into reputation management and RSS Search.

I have a feeling even Jason Calacanis is going to like RSSBrief because it will help him with reputation management for Mahalo… but

Open Social Web – Google + Feedburner Really Is Bad For RSS

I honestly laughed when I saw the new "Open Social Web" Bill of Rights launched yesterday, not because it isn't to some extent a useful idea, but because of one specific term…

Control of whether and how such personal information is shared with others

10 months ago I fired off a heated debate about RSS sharing, and how Google with it's easy to share feeds could be killing the future of RSS. Now I say I fired it off, but honestly it would have been a storm in a teacup without Robert Scoble taking part with one of his most

Lijit Alpha? – Google Custom Search Engine Is Not Currently Suitable For Site Search

Lijit Search

Lijit

There has been some talk today about Lijit, a service intended to be a better way to search for information. I was pointed in the direction of it by a post by Matthew Chen of Megite, which in turn led me to another blog I subscribe to but hadn’t looked at yet, A VC, who discussed a Lijit search for Venture Capital blogs that is now appearing on the VC Feedburner Network coordinated by Brad Feld who also discusses it.
This is all based upon a partnership between Lijit and Feedburner. I hadn’t seen anything on the Feedburner blog about this partnership but as I am interested in Google CSE and Feedburner, I thought I would take a look.

Disclosure Policy Feedburner Feedflare

For many people, my Disclosure Policy Plugin was looked on as overkill. It seemed all they really wanted was an overall disclosure policy on their site, and to use a link in their sidebar.
Adding something to their feed content was generally looked on as a good idea, but all the additional functionality wasn’t really required.

UK Internet Marketing Castrated | SI (3429 of 2006)

I regret to inform you that this is serious news, and if you run your business from the UK, and have a website, this probably affects you.

It affects you even more, and places you at a serious competitive disadvantage, if you are involved with Niche or Internet Marketing, in topics you don’t want your competitors knowing about, especially if click-fraud attacks are a danger.

Feedburner Customization

I have just been doing a little rebranding of my Feedburner feeds, especially for their email services.

It was actually something I had overlooked when I first enabled email subscriptions. I had carefully looked at Feedblitz, and decided I didn’t like the way their email subscriptions looked by default, and at the same time, I didn’t really want to pay for all the customised options that would have made using their service worthwhile.
