I just went to follow a link on Twitter and discovered it was blocked by OpenDNS

Bit.ly URL SHortener has been blocked by OpenDNS

I must admit I did smile – I know at least one friend’s site that is reported by bit.ly to be a phishing site, notable SEO and ninja link builder Jim Boykin.

That being said, Bit.ly is the default URL shortener for Twitter, and receives 31% of their measurable traffic from Twitter, thus both are growing like weeds.

What Are OpenDNS & How Big A Deal Is This?

OpenDNS is like a yellow pages for internet resources, an important internet backbone.

Just a few days ago they reported serving 14,000,000,000 requests in a single day. That is a lot.

I use OpenDNS because web pages open faster when I use them, and the DNS provided by my Internet Service Provider doesn’t recognise when I type in URLs without WWW.

Looks like I am going to have to use SU.PR or Cli.gs for a while
